I've been a fan of John Everson since I first read his 2009 erotic horror novel THE 13TH and I've been hooked ever since. He is the type of author that just hits all the right notes for me. Not only does he love horror, he blends it with an eroticism you don't often find. There is a heavy 70's style influence from the occult films of yore, but strong slasher elements from my favorite horror heyday, the 80s.
NightWhere is hands down the most extreme piece Everson has written to date, but perhaps the most violent and sexually depraved novel I've read ever.
Rae and Mark are swingers, mostly because Rae's sexual desire cannot be sated by one lover. Mark's unconditional love for his wife allow him to follow along on the escapades, but eventually she wants even more. That leads them to NightWhere. When his wife disappears into the seedy underground sex club, he has to go through hell and back to try and save her.
NightWhere encourages the reader to get their toes wet before jumping in head first, so we start out with some whipping, a little domination and submission, but once NightWhere kicks into high gear Everson holds nothing back.
For a fan of erotic horror and pushing boundaries into the extreme, this is the ultimate novel. I expected to see some backlash to the novel due to the extreme sexual violence, but seems most fans are receiving the novel with open arms.
NightWhere has all the signatures of an Everson novel; sex, blood, torture, and a pulsating synth-driven soundtrack. Still, this is so much Everson while being unlike anything he has written before. There is the love-dumb male protagonist driven into life-threatening danger by the women who hungers from evil which are a signature of Everson novels, but NightWhere makes his previous novels look like a lightweight skin flick by comparison.
If you want to go beyond the Blue Room where light spankings are the order of the day and into the Red where there is no limit to fulfill your sexual desires, NightWhere is your book.

I devoured this book yesterday. Has to be my BEST read of 2012. John Everson knocked it out the ball park with this book. He takes you into a very dark and sin filled world. Mark and Rae have a very open marriage. And have been to many sex clubs. But when the red invitation for NightWhere arrives. They enter into a dark sex world they have never experienced before. Mark and Rae soon find out the sex,pain,loss that the NightWhere brings.

So step into the dark sinful world of the NightWhere. And as Mark says "He was peanut butter but someone or something else always brought the jelly."
BalasHapusNightWhere will elicit a few different kinds of reactions. Either you will not be able to put it down until its finished, or you'll need to take breaks to catch your breath or clear your mind. NightWhere is an EXTREMELY erotic horror novel, filled with not only sex, but explicit no-holds barred sex, degradation, and violence. But it's also a great story and an exploration into the extreme and the supernatural. Sliding NightWhere into the "horror" category leads one to believe it's just a horror novel, but it's so much more. It's a smoothly written novel that flows wonderfully and never lets up. Fans of Mr. Everson will love it and if you are new to his work, then this is a great place to start.
BalasHapusFilled with wicked characters doing imaginable as well as unimaginable things, NightWhere is a finely crafted piece of fiction loaded with tension, suspense, mystery, blood and guts and eye-popping moments.
NightWhere is relentless, it takes control and doesn't let up until the inevitable, but rewarding ending - whether you count yourself on the side of the Angels or Devils. If your need for a twisted read is like mine, you'll find a home in the delectable nightmare that is NightWhere...come to NightWhere...stay forever!
