Dance Dragons Song Fire Book
First off, I just want mention that I was both a novice to this series and the fantasy genre as a whole (LOTR has been my main exposure). After watching the first two seasons on HBO, I had to look into reading The Song of Fire and Ice, and it has been one of the most enjoyable series of books I have read. Luckily the timing of reading the books was perfect for me, as I just finished AFFC right after this came out.
I read through a lot of reviews before purchasing this and understand people's disappointments. But although the story-lines have significantly slowed down in the last two books, I have found another type of enjoyment in that. What I have liked the best of the series was not the action or battles, but rather the on-going developments in politics. I also have loved how he has continued to expand the world, even if this has brought in seemingly random characters who are not directly related to the main story arch. I have personally appreciated every bit of extra info that has revealed a more and more realistic vision of the world where his characters are living. And most of all, I have LOVED the fact that he has allowed his characters to be killed off. I feel he has placed the developments of the story above any attachment to characters, even if they are "good." I found that the hardest events to grapple with events have enriched the realism that is at the heart of the series.
Some people may not like this latest book (especially those who have been waiting years for it to come out). Yet I have loved seeing the world develop and revealed more fully (which I think takes perspectives from more characters, especially those who are minor). And the slow movement of the last two books has given me time to take that all in. If you have loved the politics, character development and realism that is at the heart of the series, you will continue to be drawn into the plot in this book. He has spent the time setting everything in place for the rest of the series and I cannot wait.
I just finished the 5th "Song of Ice and Fire" book "A Dance with Dragons". And now I need some newish material. I like the Forgotten Realms and Dungeons and Dragons worlds, but I'm open to anything fantasy related really. I've read up to the Orc trilogy in the Drizzt series. Among a couple of other R.A. Salvatore books.
BalasHapusAfter Watching A game of thrones tv series i want to read the books. Why are A Storm Of Swords and A Dance With Dragons in two part in the uk, is it for the money?
BalasHapusThe last book was A Dance With Dragons - book 5. When is books 6 going to be released?
BalasHapusI was looking into buying the books and i saw that there is A song of fire and ice (1) and A song of fire and ice (2)... Sorry for my intense noobyness, but hey, gotta learn somewhere
BalasHapusDance with dragons. And tyrion lannister.
BalasHapusI am about a quarter way through of Dance With Dragons (A song of ice and fire by George RR Martin) but I am soooo bored with it. I want to move on to a new series but feel I need to finish it after all the time I spent reading (especially after forcing myself to read Feast for Crows!!) So does anything really important happen?? So far I feel like nothing at all is happening....
BalasHapusI'm reading A Dance with Dragons right now and I'm curious. How much time has passed in the story from the first book to the fifth?
BalasHapusI've read The Lord of the Rings books 3 times over and have just started the 5th book in the series A Song of Fire and Ice: A Dance With Dragons. I was wondering if there were any other suggestions to fantasy novels like these that I could read after I have finished this?
BalasHapusI've read all of the Wheel Of Time (Robert Jordan) that are out so far (last ones weren't as good but once you're in the story...). Also, I've read The Ice of Song and Fire series (George R.R Martin), and I'm waiting for A dance with Dragons to come out (5th book). Any other good Fantasy books in the likes of the two above? with good characters, Medeival timing (swords and whatnot), and magic/sorcery? I'm leaving for New zealand for a year and I want something that will entertain me in my 2 day flight there, and of course for rainy days.
