Invicta 1825 Russian Mechanical Polyurethane

Invicta 1825 Russian Mechanical Polyurethane

I've had this watch for about a month and am amazed at the quality-for-price. I gave my 30-year old Rolex Explorer to my son as a present.
I bought this watch because I really miss the Rolex and the Invicta looks a lot like it.
I don't see how they can make a watch this good and sell it at that price. It's got the weight, looks and accuracy of a much more expensive watch. If it doesn't last 30 years, you can buy 20 or 30 of them for about the price of a prestige brand. It's a good-looking watch that doesn't betray its price. You have to look closely to tell it's not a Rolex or Omega. Performance-wise they are very close and it won't break your heart if you lose it or someone steals it.
It's better than I expected and I am delighted. (Sort of reluctant to praise it too much. Like discovering a good new restaurant, it's tempting to keep it a secret.)

Very Nice Watch, Especially for the Price.

Frederique Constant FC 303WHD2PD6B Automatic Mother Of Pearl

Frederique Constant FC 303WHD2PD6B Automatic Mother Of Pearl

I purchased this watch for my wife as a Valentine's Day gift. The watch itself looks great and appears to be of a high quality build. I went and looked at this watch at a jewelry store and they wanted almost double of the cost at Amazon, so it made it a no brainer. Frederique Constant is a relatively young company in terms of watch making (founded in 1988), but they make their own movements in house which is not the norm, especially for watches in the affordable price range.

We haven't had the watch long enough to make a final determination on the quality of the watch, but so far it seems to be a good investment. As far as initial thoughts on performance and quality I would say that it is on par with my watch which is a Baume and Mercier (which is a well known and reputable watch brand).

The movement is automatic self winding (26 jewels) and is swiss made. I think that the case is 34 mm which is just right for a woman's wrist. There is also a sapphire inlaid on the end of the crown which is a rather nice touch. Also the inclusion of the date on the watch is a nice plus. The back is clear so that you can see the inner workings as is the case for most automatic watches.

All in all a very nice watch for a great price.

Timex T5J571 Sports Digital Resin

Timex T5J571 Sports Digital Resin

I bought this watch recently after years of not wearing a watch. I have a bunch of dressier watches but kind of like a cheap timex for daily wear so i don't have worry about it at all. over the past 20 years i've had two other timex ironman type watches. I've got smaller wrists so the face size is important in terms of looks. My first ironman was a bit of a smaller face - gave it away after a few years. I next purchased a bigger one but that was a bit too big and the time display was kind of small - too much real estate of everything else. This one is not an iron man but for everything i do, it's fine. the face size is in the middle and the real estate for the time is wonderful taking up a bit over half of the face. the strap is great and seems to be good at discouraging odor though it's not breathable. I'd buy it again for sure. it's water proof in the pool and giving kids baths - perfect for my needs.
the only caveat that reared it's head this morning was that it doesn't take into account leap year. ha. so once every four years, i imagine i'll have adjust the date.
it's cheap, its perfect for smaller wrists and it has all of timex's functions from the past 20 years at least.

Really good anime

Baccano Complete Series Viridian Collection

Baccano Complete Series Viridian Collection

Baccano is amazing. It's one of the few animes that can take advantage of dubbing. Because the setting is in America, it is plausible to have Italian, French and Russian accents without it sounding out of place. No voice actor is reused twice and the actors match their characters for the most part.

Dubbing aside, the action is fast paced and straight to the point. There are no filler episodes until the series ends then there are 3 OVA episodes to follow. There is no main character as the story follows all the characters to get the whole story. The whole series is out of chronological order and you must pay attention to get everything. The plot skips from 1712 to 1930-1932. It keeps the watcher interested in a mystery adventure leaving the watcher wanting more.

This series is not for young audiences. There is an excessive amount of blood, missing limbs, peoples heads being shot off with a shotgun, and people being shot up with tommy guns, and more. It is detailed. Parents I have warned you.

I do reccomend for any anime fans. I love this series so much I have rewatched it over and over and still haven't had enough. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have.

Zenith 96 0529 4035 Tourbillon Titanium Chronograph

Zenith 96 0529 4035 Tourbillon Titanium Chronograph

Being a Space Cowboy and part time Pirate, I really needed a watch that could keep up with the demands of my career. I especially found this helpful the other day. I was just lounging around on my personal space station, and noticed that a panel had come loose. But not to worry! I just activated the watches built-in anti-matter exchange circuitry, which formed a protective bubble around me, went outside, and used the patented Zenith Electro-lectic Concentrating Laser Repeater to weld the panel back on. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Another feature I enjoyed was that it actually also keeps time from the 34th dimension, which I visit quit often. No worries about missing Gelekcor the Moon Raider anymore, this watch teleports me to my lounge so I can enjoy the finest in inter-dimensional entertainment.

Thanks Zenith!

Timex Elevated Classics Two Tone Bracelet

Timex Elevated Classics Two Tone Bracelet

Prior to buying this watch, I had owned a few very expensive watches. For one reason or another, I always ended up wearing my old Timex (similar to this one) instead of the other watches. I didn't want to risk having an expensive watch stolen while left on the beach, so I would wear the Timex when we went on cruises. One day, I forgot to remove the Timex before I jumped into the water to snorkel. Amazingly, the Timex just kept on ticking. For 2 years after that, I wore it every time I went into the water, and it never failed me. This was a cheap Timex that was not labeled as waterproof. Finally, the old Timex started losing time, and it was time to replace it. I chose this watch #T27191 for its sleek design and waterproof feature. I find the face easy to read, and it is very reliable for keeping correct time, even when in the water. The indiglo light for viewing in the dark is great. My advice is, don't waste your money on an expensive every day watch, when Timex has a product at a very reasonable price that will work much better and lasts for years.

Bond Reborn...

Skyfall Daniel Craig

Skyfall Daniel Craig

When this movie comes out on DVD/BLU RAY I am most definitely immediately buying it. Absolutely amazing Bond film, the many accolades given to it are most definitely warranted. Every actor within the film play their part well, and the story from the opening sequence to the final scene are great. I appreciated the develving into of Bonds past, we finally get to see why Bond does what Bond does. The only criticism is this, there is no clear Bond girl in this movie but maybe that is best because in this story it wouldnt really make sense to have another characters back story hogging the spotlight. The movie is focused on the story of Bond and M. The action sequences are great as well, I recommend seeing it in hi-def however DVD is also efficient. This is absolutely must have for any Bond fan, even if you havent really enjoyed past Craig movies.

Big Fish Novel Mythic Proportions

Big Fish Novel Mythic Proportions

Daniel Wallace has written an adult fairy tale that can appeal to the ages, it's about families and tall tales, about truth versus reality and about what makes a person decide to get up and go each and every morning.

William Bloom is faced with his father's death and forced to deal with his tall telling father's view of how his life unfolded. Edward Bloom spent his life spinning a myth and created a legend in his own mind. As William sorts through all of the fantasy lives his father created it leads one to wonder where the truth begins and the daydream ends. Edward Bloom was loved by everything in his made-up world, he could do the whole thing faster and better and he also met the most amazing people along the way. William searches for his real father amongst the ruins of his tales and ends up conducting his own inherited legend in an unintentional twist of fate. William creates his father's death in four different ways in hopes of finding the perfection worthy of his imaginative father. In doing so he finds more than he bargained for and he skims the line between realities and dreams himself.

Wallace is a beautiful writer and has written a book like no other here. With a sense of humor and a child's idyllic wonder he tells his own tall tale through the depth of his characters. His readers will be taken on a very special journey that crosses the bridge between a warped reality and a boring everyday life. Finding the enjoyment in an exaggerated fib here and there can't be all that bad. If it takes a fantasy to fully experience life then so be it, sometimes tall tales lead us away from nightmares. Wallace brings us a wonderful fantasy laced with the sentimentality of a son yearning for a deeper understanding of his father as he lay dying. Written in almost a fairy tale format with short clips of wonder and longer snips full of moral fiber Wallace's story is unforgettable. Big Fish will make you smile, laugh and even shed a mountain of tears but mostly it will make you appreciate your own family's legends and search for a few new fish in that great big sea of dreams.

Tough Love

Tough Love

I had written a review about this earlier today, but I don't know what happened to it. So I will just start over again. If the other suddenly magically reappears, oh well! LOL N-nee-wayz, while reading this book, I pictured myself as Tara, Donnie Wahlberg as her husband Steve, and Joey McIntyre as Aidan. The things that Tara did on her journey to get to Aidan I thought was EXTREMELY crazy! 'Cause I wouldn't even do that, but yet was still able to pretend like I was her. It's always fun to pretend to be the main character no matter what.

I don't really wanna reveal too much. But I will say, the ending was just AWESOME! It reminded me of an R.L. Stine book I read my senior year in high school. And I couldn't help but laugh at some of the parts in the ending. So, if you're into suspense, you may just like the ending. I did very much. I'd recommend this book to anyone!

the bracelet by roberta gately

The Bracelet Roberta Gately

The Bracelet Roberta Gately

From the very first pages, I was hooked. I am not the romantic type, but Roberta Gately has the gift of bringing the characters to life in way that everyone can relate to. Her artistic way of describing the experiences of the characters makes it seem very real. I could identify with Abby, who ran following a series of bad events. (Who hasn't experienced at least one bad break up that triggers the urge to take off or cut your hair.)And who hasn't met a guy like Nick, arrogant and charming all at the same time. Reading The Bracelet made me experience emotions of sadness, fear, sorrow, helplessness and anger. I think all readers will be outraged when they read about the horrors that young girls around the world endure and will want to help save someone like Mariyah. Best book I have read in a very long time.

Cutest Hulk Watch On The Market!

Incredible Hulk Digital Watch

Incredible Hulk Digital Watch

I bought this watch last year to put on my Hulk Pillow Pal's wrist. It is so adorable. The bands can easily be changed by sliding them in and out of place. The watch covers slide on easily, too. The covers lock in place. All you need to do is open the face of the watch, slide the cover up, then slide a cover down to change it. With all LED watches, you use a safety pin to set the time. Insert the safety pin gently onto whichever side has the little round metal piece. You should see the time flash. You change the time and date by utilizing the buttons on the face of the watch.

I just changed the cover for the first time today. Be careful of the little black latch on the left hand side of the watch that keeps the face closed. Mine just broke. Since the watch isn't on a real child's arm, I won't worry about it, but I would prefer it had not broken.

Cute product that works well otherwise. Seller was great, too. Shipped and received quickly.

Hope you enjoy this item if you buy it. (Note: The watch is definitely child sized, but a woman with lithe wrists should be able to fit the watch as well, though it may be a bit constricting.)

We laughed out loud . . . a lot!!!

Step Brothers Single Disc Unrated Edition

Step Brothers Single Disc Unrated Edition

First of all I have to say this is one of the funniest movies I've seen it years, comedy just doesn't get much better than this. Secondly, if you're not a Will Ferrell fan, you're probably not going to like this. This is one of those comedies that's stupidly funny, much like the comedy classic 'The Jerk' starring Steve Martin. If you're not a fan of silly, crude and offensive humor then avoid this film at all costs, but if you've seen Will and John's previous efforts and enjoyed them, then you will most surely love this one, as it is without a doubt the best film they've made together, and I would go so far as saying that it's Will Ferrell's best yet.

Many people seeing this movie are apparently unaware that it is Rated R for sexual content, language and profanity, so be warned if this is not in tune with your sensibilities, and you definitely do not want your kids watching this, it is for grown ups only. There is one scene in particular involving a drumset that may be a bit much for for the more reserved audience members.

This movie had me in tears of uncontrollable laughter numerous times throughout, and that is quite rare for a comedy to accomplish, so I have to give it my highest recommendation. My friends who watched it with me were laughing just as hard and we all agreed that we had to buy it once it came out on DVD.

Yes it is sophomoric, yes much of it is in poor taste, but sometimes one just has to let loose, and what's what this movie achieves, it's a great opportunity to just kick back, relax and enjoy life through two goofy guys who act like little kids.

It's more than that though, as the film progresses they learn their lessons that they can't be so irresponsible forever, much like in Judd Apatow's other films, so without giving away too much, they do what they need to and redeem themselves in the process, so despite its silliness, it's not an entirely pointless movie.

'Step Brothers' is a fun ride which reminds us to not lose the kid inside of us all and to not take life too seriously, and anyone with a funnybone that's itching to be scratched should buy this film, you won't regret it.

Hitchcock classic in new 2-disc Special Edition due out October 7th, 2008!

Window Collectors Edition James Stewart

Window Collectors Edition James Stewart

This is a superlative film of suspense. It is a tribute to the direction of Alfred Hitchcock that one is never bored watching this film, though it entirely takes place within the confines of a claustrophobic New York Greenwich Village apartment, the windows of the neighbors across the way, and a courtyard that separates the buildings.

Professional photographer L.B. "Jeff" Jeffries (Jimmy Stewart) is recovering from an accident that occurred while on assignment. Encased in a cast covering his left leg and hip, Jeff is pretty much immobilized and temporarily confined to a wheel chair. Despite regular visits by his nurse, Stella (Thelma Ritter), and his beautiful, sophisticated girlfriend, Lisa (Grace Kelly), Jeff is chafing at his confinement. Bored stiff, he does what he does best. He peers at those around him from his window. Jeff finds the lives of his neighbors both immensely interesting and amusing. He watches them through their windows and in the courtyard, enhancing his experience with binoculars and the zoom lens of his camera. Jeff draws inferences and conclusions about them, based upon his own experiences with human behavior.

This interest intensifies and takes a strange turn, when he believes one of them, Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr), may have committed a grisly murder, killing off his invalid wife, Anna. Though Jeff never actually sees the murder, what he does see is its aftermath and some peculiar behavior that puzzles him. Putting two and two together, he becomes absolutely convinced that his neighbor across the way has done away with his invalid wife. Jeff then informally involves his friend, Lt. Thomas Doyle (Wendell Corey) of the New York City Police Department, who initially scoffs at Jeff's assessment, though he does a cursory check . With Lisa and Stella also becoming fascinated by the strange behavior of Lars Thorwald, their interest and amateur sleuthing propels the film to an exciting climax.

Jimmy Stewart is terrific as the housebound voyeur, drawing the viewer in with him. One finds oneself peering along with him into the lives of those around him. Grace Kelly is stunningly beautiful as Jeff's girlfriend Lisa, with whom Jeff is finding it difficult to make a commitment. It is interesting that as Jeff gets more intimately engrossed in his neighbors' affairs, his intimacy with Lisa seems to grow, drawing them closer together. Thelma Ritter is funny and sassy as the tough talking, no nonsense nurse. Raymond Burr, looking eerily as he would half a century later, is well cast as the neighbor whose wife got on his nerves. Wendell Corey is very good as the congenial, though jaded, detective.

All in all, this is a terrific film that clearly shows the mastery and deft direction of the legendary Hitchcock. With a well written script and a stellar cast, this is a film that is well worth having in one's personal collection. Bravo!

A wonderful police procedural

Blood Line Travis Novel Mysteries

Blood Line Travis Novel Mysteries

P.D. James started out as a more or less conventional detective novelist. She writes the typical cerebral English muder mystery, and is the closest thing to an heir Agatha Christie has had since she passed away. Christie almost always emphasized a complicated plot, with a murder "puzzle" mystery that required Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot to solve, and she usually resolved the plots more or less completely. James is content to include a mystery, and not so determined to have things tied up neatly at the end, so the books have a more modern feel to them. She's also, for whatever reason, much more interested in the incidental characters in her books. Christie emphasized the mystery itself; James changes the emphasis, and pays attention to the various participants, their actions, thoughts, feelings, families, and so forth.

So we come to the latest book. The title character is the victim Rhoda Gradwyn, a patient of a private medical clinic in rural England. She's an investigative journalist, and she's lived all of her life with a pretty horrific scar on her face, which she now decides to have removed or mitigated as much as possible. Rather than undergo Britain's National Health Service and its waiting lists, she engages a private surgeon, who runs a clinic in the rural English countryside called Cheverall Manor. It's an English country estate whose owner fell on hard times, and had to sell, and the surgeon has staffed it with nurses, an assistant, and various maids, along with a husband and wife cooking team. Rhoda is expected to stay a week after the surgery, recovering, but she's murdered the first night.

Dalgliesh and his team are summoned to work out who killed her. At first they are confused why the locals aren't left in charge, but when it appears that a very wealthy and prominent socialite was in the room next to Gradwyn's, waiting on surgery the next day, that part of the mystery is solved. The rest of it takes some unravelling, and the result isn't completely satisfactory to most of the participants, but the reader should enjoy the course of the novel and its conclusion.

The way this book is written, it could serve as the last Dalgliesh novel. I'm unaware if there's another. As of this writing author James will turn 91 some time this year, and that makes this book (published the year the author turned 88) rather remarkable. If it is the last, it's a fine end to the series; if not, I look forward to the next book.

La Mer Collections LMLW4045 Layered

I love this watch. The material is supple and soft, very comfortable. The print is beautiful and more classic looking than I expected. I expected the print to seem somewhat trendy, but it truly looks more classic than not. Having read the reviews before buying the watch I anticipated the grey to look a little lighter in person, but did not anticipate the black snake print to appear lighter in some places as it does. It's darker in some areas and lighter, more faded, in others. I expected a more defined print all the way around. It's still beautiful (can't say that enough!). My wrist is apparently small (I don't buy watches enough to know sizing), and this fits perfectly on the tightest notch available, but it leaves a long tail that I don't like and I'm going to see about having that tailored (I like the watch enough to do that, but I really wouldn't have thought to have someone else do the adjustment if the material wasn't as seemingly high quality as it is, I would see about doing it myself). I will probably be a fan of La Mer for a long time to come, now.

Great watch!

Invicta Watch

Invicta Watch

This watch was a Christmas gift for my daughter. She wanted a dark-faced dive watch with a stainless steel bracelet (this watch comes with both a ss bracelet AND a rubber strap!) My daughter and I both really liked the gray dial and bezel. The watch style is classic but the color is unique.

It is a 38mm watch, which is large for a woman's watch. But that is the current trend in women's watches. It would work equally well as a midsize man's watch (the midsize Omega Seamaster that my father wears is 38mm). As far as I can tell, the only thing that makes this a woman's watch is the number of removable links in the band. We could very easily size it to my daughter's slight wrist.

For the price, this is a great watch. This is not an heirloom piece to hand down to your grandchildren -- this is a sixty buck watch. For pure aesthetics and value, I think the Invicta dive watches are unbeatable.

Pros: Durable, lightweight, has simplicity and basic functions of a watch, great for daily wear, aesthetically pleasing and matches well with many casual outfits.

Con: the watch's straps are a bit difficult to put on and off when I am wearing it as a perfect fit, as opposed to when I wear it a bit loosely.

Originally, I was looking for a watch with a 24-hour clock, is simple, durable, and good for everyday wear. For $[...] + free shipping, this watch is exactly those things. I've owned this watch for a couple months now and have yet to be disappointed. To be honest, the only "big" problem I would have later on is getting a new strap for it, and I'll explain why at the end.

The picture of the watch on this page does not do The Expedition justice at all. After taking it out of the box, my immediate impression is this is one handsome watch. The picture on Amazon's site makes the metal casing of the watch look whitish, powdery. This is not so. It is a black metal, and in the light, it sometimes has a copper-brown hue when contrasted to the olive green background and dark brown straps. Also, the olive green background and the numerals look very flat and drab. This is also not the case. Some reviewers have complained that the date indicator is too small to read. I personally had no trouble reading the date in the usual well-lit atmosphere. However, if you push the crown to light up the watch, it will not light up the date window. The 24-hour digits are small, but not unreadable. But since I bought it to get used to using UTC time, it was better this way for me because I could test myself that way. The only function I found useless was the cardinal directions, but it doesn't get in the way. Also, the ticking sound of the second hand is pretty much inaudible, unlike some reviews I've read about other watches on Amazon. Overall, all the basic functions you could want in a watch are there and work very well.

Other notables about the Expedition. I have banged my wrist several times onto things and it has yet to scratch. It's also been exposed to weather as I walked in heavy rain and hail once. Granted I didn't flail my wrist in the air to test this out, but it did get wet and still works fine. Also, another reviewer said the holes go all the way up to the watch itself; I think this is so that you have the choice to wrap the watch around something else like a strap or pants belt loop. I also like that this watch is not bulky at all, making it light and fairly comfortable to wear. Especially in comparison to Coleman's women's watch which I got from a local Target:

[...]

They both have the 24 hour clock, lights up, water resistant, and although the Coleman is about $[...] cheaper, it is very bulky because the actual watch sits on top of the leather strap, which itself is also bulky. While the silver casing makes the Coleman look a bit "classier," the Expedition is more suitable for everyday wear for me. All of these things add to the functionality and practicality of the Expedition.

The only thing I will dock the watch is it's strap. It fits my wrist fine, but strapping it on and taking it off is a bit of a struggle as the metal pieces tends to stay in the hole. With all the tugging (when I wear it with a perfect fit), I can see that I'll be buying a new strap for this later down the line. But when I wear it a size looser, I don't have this problem.

Bottom line: at this price, and compared to other watches with similar functions, I am very happy with this purchase.

Timex Vibration Alarm Watch

Timex T49851 Expedition Digital Vibration

Timex T49851 Expedition Digital Vibration

First watch I've had for which I could get unused functionas out of the way. First thing I did was hide everything but the count up and count down functions -- very handy and easy to use due to quick access and flat buttons. My stopwatches all have large flat buttons, but wristwatches tend to have small round ones that are not positive when pressed. The buttons on this wristwatch are flat and large enough to press comfortably and easily. The display is easy to read with its large characters and digits and with unneeded functions hidden it is uncluttered for at-a-glance reading. I'm not a fan of rubber wristbands, but it has proven to be functional -- no slipping when tightened correctly, even when wet. Was working in the rain last weekend and noticed no fogging of the lens.

Update 4/7/13: Ive used this watch, especially the countdown timer function, many times now and it's worth the purchase for that function alone. Large readout, easy to change the "countdown from" figure (it remembers the previous, so timing warmups is a cinch), no math involved for "remaining time" as that's what is displayed, and it vibrates on expiration so you don't have to be looking at it. And I'm easily trained I suppose because the rubber wristband doesn't bother me now.

Erotic, Sensual, Can't-Put-It Down Book!

Timex Indiglo Counter Triathlon Resistant

Timex Indiglo Counter Triathlon Resistant

The Voyeur tells the story of a recently divorced woman who secretly watches her neighbors from across her apartment. At first she discovers secrets and watches her neighbors with their private sessions, but she soon shifts her attention to a specific young man who has awakened her sexual senses like never before. As she continues to watch the young man, she begins to discover her inner sexual desires and finds herself in a path she needs to take.
Germaine Gibson has done it again. This time, the story revolves a broken woman in search for her sexual self. Through the perspective of a first person, the reader will surely feel what the main character feels. The reader will indulge in her senses and get to understand what she goes through with her sexual transformation as she begins to find the young neighbor attractive and interesting. Now, all might think that this story is a simple voyeuristic approach but what readers do not know is that a surprise awaits them when they finish the book. A lot of authors rarely surprise their readers with such a heavy fantasy book but everything becomes clear in the end.

This is one of Germaine Gibson's gift of storytelling. The author engulfs you to the character's world and lets you settle in before she quickly jabs you with authentic high quality twists and turns that will send readers reeling for more. It is one quality of an author that is rarely taken to the next level but Germaine proves that she knows a thing or two about telling erotic stories while still maintaining good character development and well plotted storylines.

So, if you are planning on reading a book to get your senses up then Germaine Gibson's The Voyeur will surely let you light up your inner desires.

Highly enjoyable book of short essays

HAMLET 1921 Nielsen DVD R order

HAMLET 1921 Nielsen DVD R order

I've never read any of Elinor Lipman's novels - I was attracted to this book because I've been trying to read more personal essays and creative nonfiction. Lipman's essays are unique in the sense that they are brief and much more like (longer) magazine pieces than essays, but that's part of what made them so perfect. It was easy to pick up the book, read a piece or two, and then put the book down without losing your place (in other words, a perfect book to read on public transportation).

Lipman's pieces focus on daily life - she starts by recounting some childhood and family memories, and then moves on to her life as a writer and her marriage. I loved "Confessions of Blurb Slut," where she discusses what it's like to be solicited (and have to turn down) for blurbs on books by other authors. Anyone who is more introverted will be able to relate to "No Thank You, I Think," where she discusses learning how to turn down invitations and confessing her and her husband's limitations ("No, thanks. Dinner would be great, or a movie, but you know us: we're not good at doing two things in the same night"). I also really enjoyed the piece about making one of her novels into a movie - I would actually really recommend her work for any budding authors because she gives you some insights into the business of writing.

Glad I picked this one up, and am adding one of her books, "Then She Found Me," to my "to-read" list.
